Reconnecting with Your Spirit: Returning to the Part of You That Knows

Opening reflection
There is a quiet in me that I can feel when I stop rushing. It shows up when I choose stillness, when I step outside, when I breathe on purpose. That quiet is my spirit. When I am spiritually aligned, I feel an inner calm that outside noise cannot touch. I remember that what is meant for me will not miss me. I honor my peace more than I honor any need to be right. I keep practicing, gently, because this is how I come home to myself.
Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health writes that integrating spirituality into care “could boost health and well being” for many people (linked text: Harvard Chan News, 2024). That language lands for me. When I tend to my spirit, my life steadies.
The moment I turn inward
I used to look outside for signs. Now I look inward first. I sit for a few minutes, I breathe, and I ask, What do I already know. I write one line if it comes. I let silence be an answer if it does not.
Harvard Public Health calls for “bridging the spirituality and health gap” to improve outcomes, noting that body and soul belong in the same conversation (linked text: Harvard Public Health, 2024). I feel that truth in my daily life. When I include my spirit in my choices, I feel less split and more whole.
Nature as a doorway to peace
When I step into woods or sunlight, my nervous system softens. The air feels different. My thoughts move slower and make more sense. Harvard Chan News notes that “time spent in nature can boost physical and mental well being,” even linking to lower mortality and better mental health markers (linked text: Harvard Chan News, 2024). The Johns Hopkins Center for Health Equity adds that living near green spaces offers benefits that touch “physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well being” (linked text: Johns Hopkins, 2024).
I keep this simple. I put my phone down and notice one color in the sky, one sound in the trees, one sensation on my skin. I let the world remind me that I belong here.
When old triggers lose their power
I notice alignment when the things that used to drain me no longer pull me out of myself. An opinion I would have fought to defend no longer needs a rebuttal. A delay that once felt like failure looks like timing. I choose the path of least resistance that still honors my truth. Peace over proving.
If you want to keep practicing this gently, the Spirit section of my workbook, Love Letters to Yourself, guides you through soul doodles, alignment trackers, and prompts that help you notice your energy shifts. It is a soft container for building your own rituals.
A small evening ritual
At night I write three lines.
-
Where I felt most spiritually aligned today.
-
One moment I chose peace over being right.
-
One word I want to carry into tomorrow.
I sleep better when I end the day with gratitude and intention. I wake up more likely to remember who I am.
